NIGERIA - LUXEMBOURG RELATIONS
Luxembourg is one of the smallest countries in Europe with a population of about 543,202. The country is surrounded by Belgium, France and Germany. Its capital, Luxembourg City, is famed for its fortified old structures, dating back to medieval times. It is a hub for Banks and Financial services, because of its liberal economic policies. The official languages are French, German and Luxembourgish.
Relations between Nigeria and Luxembourg had been very cordial. Essentially, most bilateral issues between the two countries are subsumed in the ambit of the multilateral ACP-EU relations, as it is the case with many ACP countries. Both countries have however, demonstrated a very robust understanding and support for each other’s candidates for placement in important positions in International Organisations.
The most visible and viable partnership between Nigeria and Luxembourg is the Aviation Sector. The Cargolux International Airline of Luxembourg operates cargo flights into Nigeria twice weekly.
Luxembourg has remained a home to teeming population of Nigerians, including professionals, entrepreneurs and students, who are legally residents in Luxembourg. Both countries had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Migration to address the menace and other grey areas.
